TONIC | NEWS THE AMEY’S EMBARK ON A TRIP OF A LIFETIME AT THE 2014 WORLD SURFARIS COAST OF ORIGIN, MNM BOARDRIDERS’ RYAN AMEY ENTERED INTO THE DRAW TO WIN A SURF TRIP OF A LIFETIME TO THE SALANI SURF RESORT IN SAMOA COURTESY OF WORLD SURFARIS AND THE SAMOA TOURISM AUTHORITY. Ryan’s name was drawn soon after and his dad Tristan quickly agreed to chaperone his young son on a surf trip of a lifetime. We caught up with Tristan to chat about their trip. HOW WAS YOUR TRIP? It was absolutely awesome. We didn’t have the best swell, but it worked out well with the 12 year old son I took with me. In general we had great waves. It was about 3-4 foot on one of the bigger days. It was a really great resort and we really enjoyed it. WHAT BOARDS DID YOU TAKE OVER? I took over a 6’1 JR and Ryan was riding a 5’11 Stuarts little bender. HOW WAS THE RESORT? Salani surf was great. We would defiantly go back there. HOW DID RYAN LIKE IT? DID HE COME BACK STOKED? Oh defiantly, he had the waves of his life. He was out there with a few of the oldies and getting right of way with them all calling him on so it was an awesome experience for him to get nice long waves with half a dozen turns on one wave. He was super happy which is awesome. WAS HE SURFING OUT THERE LONGER THEN YOU? Oh we were doing six hours a day, so probably the longest he has ever surfed with two sessions a day. WHAT OTHER ACTIVITIES DID YOU DO? FISHING? SNORKELLING? We did a bit of snorkelling, which was good, and we went and saw the sinkhole. A few day trips out to all the waterfalls and that kind of stuff. So the place kept us well entertained when we weren’t surfing.
