TONIC | NEWS FIVE MINUTES WITH ETHAN EWING INTERVIEW BY DEV LAHEY THE 2014-2015 SEASON HAS BEEN A GREAT YEAR FOR YOU HASN’T IT? Yeah I have had a really good year. I started off really well and was not expecting such a good start to the year. I was really focused which helped my surfing in the comps, which thankfully resulted in the wins. YOU WON THE UNDER 18 BOYS QUEENSLAND TITLE IN 2014, WHAT DID THE WIN MEAN TO YOU? Yeah I did, it meant a lot, there a lot of good surfers around my age in Queensland and to get a win on top of them was really good. WINNING THE SERIES MEANT YOU GOT THE WILDCARD INTO THE WSL QUIKSILVER PRO TRIAL, HOW DID THAT FEEL? Yes, it was a really good experience to get the chance to surf against all of my heroes and good to just watch what they do in their heats and witness first hand how good they surf. It really makes me want to try harder and it definitely helped my surfing competing against them. I learnt a lot for such a fun event. I even made it to the semi finals, which I am hoping to do again next year to try and go a little bit better. I really enjoy surfing at Snapper Rocks and it gives me something to aim for. WHAT KIND OF BOARD WERE YOU RIDING IN THE TRIALS? I was riding a DHD, DF1 5`11. WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU? I have got one last Pro Junior that will be in Lennox Heads in July that I am going to focus and train for so that I can improve enough to try and qualify for the World Pro Juniors. I will also try and get to a few more QS events and try and lean a lot from them. THANKS ETHAN AND GOOD LUCK. SURFINGQUEENSLAND.COM.AU AUTUMN ISSUE – 25
