TONIC Autumn 2014 Issue - 50th Anniversary Autumn 2014 | Seite 22

TONIC | Club Development notice HI, Surfers By Dave Lammin As summer quickly draws to a close, I am sure everyone is really looking forward to the possibility of some quality swell coming into our autumn / winter period. We have all been pretty ‘surf starved’ these past few months and itching for a run of nice consistent groundswell to grace our shores. The next three years represents an exciting time for Surfing Queensland, with the organisation’s new strategic period already kicking off from January 1st and carrying through to the end of 2016. A number of new programs and initiatives across all facets of the business, including events, surf schools, Boardriders Clubs and training and education will be rolled out over the next three years. Increasing participation in women’s surfing will be one of Surfing Queensland’s key focuses over this period. Surfing Queensland’s continued commitment to further develop the sport has been further bolstered by the appointment of two new staff members, Sean Dyball and Cory Roberts. Sean has been employed as Surfing Queensland’s Sport Development Officer and will be assisting with Boardriders Clubs as well as other areas of the business. Cory has joined the events team as Surfing Queensland’s Events and Communications Co-ordinator and will provide assistance to both Adam Yates and Benny Whitmore in the Events Department. Both Sean and Cory bring a new skill set and enthusiasm to the team and we are all pretty stoked to have them both on board. A further big welcome goes out to our new Surf Schools and Boardriders Clubs who have recently affiliated with Surfing Queensland, including Silky Surf, Surfing Mums, BrisSUP and Cabarita Bodyboard. I also want to extend a big congratulations to Snapper Rocks Surfriders who were victorious in the recent Be the Influence Boardriders Battle National Final on the Australia Day weekend. Snapper’s stellar line up of surfers secured a solid victory for the club against some really tough competition. In the coming weeks, a few of the Surfing Queensland team will be heading north for the Agnes Water and Yeppoon Surfing Festivals. SeaQ’ Boardriders celebrates its 10th year anniversary while we are there, which should be a blast! Continuing to provide support to our affiliated clubs and their members in the northern regions is paramount to the future development of our sport. On behalf of the team at Surfing Queensland, enjoy the last fleeting months in your boardies / bikinis and start dusting off your steamers for, let’s hope, a great winter of waves!
