One of the very first designs from the alwaysinventive Shoe Pedals was a wackadoodle fuzz bomb called the Silver Apple . It ’ s exceptionally cool for a number of reasons ( one of which is that it is named after Silver Apples , the way , way ahead-of-their-time , late ‘ 60s synth-and-drums duo from New York City ). It has a very interesting lineage , having been directly inspired by the legendary ( and currently out-of-production ) Mellowtone Wolf Computer , which itself was a simple , yet many splendored Fuzz Factory-like
circuit , but with silicon transistors in place of germanium . Shoe ’ s Silver Apple ups the ante with a momentary footswitch for bringing the oscillation and octave tones in and out at will . It also expanded the control set substantially to allow the user to dial in specific pitches of brilliantly oscillating madness . The Silver Apple is glitchy and synthy as all get-out , and sounds like someone spilled beer in the Nintendo again .
