it on?
MS: Oh yeah. I don’t still have it. It was
a thing I never really got to use that
much. It was maybe a little messy and a
little noisy, but it just looked so cool!
Phasers are weird. I’ve always wanted
to use them, and every now and then
I’ll buy an MXR Phase 90 or whatever
and I don’t know, it’s another thing like
the Leslie where if I had a blend it
would be better.
PD: Finally, and this is the toughest
question of the night. Big Star or
Beatles? You have to choose one!
MS: That’s not fair at all. I can’t and I’ll
tell you why. I worship John Lennon so
much in the Beatles. I mean I love the
whole Beatles and they are so
important to me. But with Big Star, I
really wanted to find American music
that moved me. As a teenager, I was
really into when punk and new wave
happened I liked the melodic guys and
I loved Elvis Costello, and Nick Lowe
and XTC. And I eventually got into the
Voidoids and Television, but some of
the first American bands I really loved
were like the dBs because I read New
York Rocker. It’s hard to explain all of
this without remembering that there
was no internet. It made things more
exciting and you imagined more about
