sweep, but at some settings further up the spectrum it lacks a little bit of highend air. The character of the distortion is classic Big Muff tone—warm, scooped, articulate, and more sensitive to pick attack than most distortion pedals are and were at the time. A lot of modern Big Muff clones will also resort to selfcompression at higher gain settings, but this pedal relies on the natural compression of the tube amp to help kick it forward. At all gain levels, the sound was crispy and reactive to pick attack. With a softer pick attack, the tone is just a hair more reined in, and the dynamics are a little suppressed (in a good way). With a harder pick attack, the full spectrum of the Big Muff tone cuts through, with deep lows, perfectly subdued mids, and slicing highs, giving it that wonderful wall of sound tone that makes the Big Muff so famous. WHAT WE LIKE Crispy, clear and articulate. Responds beautifully to pick attack and has a wide range of tones. Plenty of versatility added with the tone switch. CONCERNS None. ToneReport.com 67
