new Colour Box arrived in my mailbox just
a few weeks later. While most 1073 style
rack preamps for the studio can easily cost
you over a thousand dollars (that’s without
the EQ!), JHS’s offering can be had for
$400. While that may be a little steep for
just a guitar pedal, the Colour Box goes
above and beyond what most basic guitar
pedals can do and adds a beautiful, warm,
hi-fi sheen to any DI, line in, or microphone
recordings.
Today, I have taken the JHS Colour Box
and ran it through a variety of scenarios
to showcase its strengths beyond just a
guitar pedal. I have recorded a few clips
in my studio for your listening pleasure,
using the XLR inputs and Line Ins.
