Fender EOB Stratocaster When I heard Fender was doing an Ed O’Brien signature guitar, I was surprised and excited. O’Brien of Radiohead fame isn’t a household name, and he isn’t known for his wild solos or heavy riffs; he’s very much a textural player. If you’ve ever listened to a Radiohead song and wondered what the weird noises in the background were, there’s a good chance O’Brien was messing around with one of his many pedals to conjure up some strange sounds. Lately he’s been seen on stage with a white Stratocaster. He played it extensively when I saw Radiohead in Seattle this past April, and it appears Fender is letting us have a taste. The EOB Stratocaster features a Fernandes Sustainer pickup, which allows you to play single notes or chords for infinity. It’s very similar to having a built-in EBow in your guitar, but without needing to use your hand to move it from string to string, you can spend less time fiddling with gadgets and more time creating masterpieces.
