EarthQuaker Devices Arpanoid EQD explains this curious kaleidosonic stomper in the most concise way possible: “The Arpanoid takes whatever notes you play and calculates an adjustable ascending or descending scale based on the root note.” If one is after some serious pitch acrobatics without going whole-hog and buying an Eventide, this could be the perfect pedal. With an octave range above or below the played note or chord, one can go major or minor scale and even choose how many notes there are in the sequence that follows initial attack. This makes for some incredible single strike statements that stand out like a Kraftwerk Kling Klang Studio treatment. If I had this step sequencing beast, I’d most likely go for Mode 8: Minor: random pattern, with the toggle switch set to the middle position for some unpredictable pitch shifting. Then I’d be inclined to stick a gated fuzz (B:Assmaster perhaps) after it to get into the doom drone zone. ToneReport.com 17
