Robert Keeley ’ s pedals hold a special place in my heart . When I first started getting into effects , Keeley-modded pedals were red-hot , and I kept hearing rave reviews about the modified Blues Driver and Tube Screamers . It just so happened that I already owned a TS9 , so I figured I might as well complete the package deal . I found a used BD-2 , and together with the TS9 , I shipped it off to Oklahoma to get modded . They formed a great pair , and they made me start to understand the beauty of a clean amplifier used as a pedal platform . At the time , I was using a Fender ProSonic combo — a 60-watt amp , switchable between
30 and 40 watts , using two ten-inch speakers , with a clean and a dirty channel . I didn ’ t care for the dirty channel at all , so I ran the BD-2 into the Tube Screamer and came to understand how dirt pedals can interact with one another and offer a wide variety of tones when applied to an essentially blank canvas . At this point , Keeley ’ s mods have evolved into original creations ( see : Super Phat Mod and Red Dirt ), but if you can get your hands on one of the mods , do it — you won ’ t be disappointed .
