The Wellness Bite:
Thanksgiving Game-Plan
Thanksgiving is such a great time of year, getting together with family and enjoying a football game or two. Lest I forget the
FOOD? Oh, it can be heavenly...but for some it’s incredibly challenging. If you are someone who has recently achieved or are
on the cusp of reaching a wellness goal, the idea of Thanksgiving and the potential snowball effect of “cheats” through the
holidays may bring you some anxiety. Maybe you’re someone who is wanting to start your journey, but tends to think it’s bet-
ter to just wait until after Thanksgiving or even the holiday season. Well, there are options to stop putting off your intentions
and/or continue what you’ve been working so hard for! Here are a few tips to get you through Thanksgiving and avoid the
slippery slope through the first of the year.
Eat Breakfast! Yes, you will be eating yourself into a food coma later, but if you start your day with a wholesome breakfast,
you’ll be less likely to binge on the rich foods and desserts later and more likely to keep to moderate portions because you
won’t be starving.
Know Yourself. Know that there are certain foods that make you weak at the knees, understand that you have over eaten
this dish or treat in the past. Then be prepared to take the correct portion and walk away feeling empowered that you are in
charge of what’s on your plate!
Start Thanksgiving With Physical Activity – And Stay Active! Start your day will some activity: walk, run, yoga, weight train,
hike, anything that gets you moving. This will help you to make good decisions later in the day. After dinner, go move again!
Recruit some family members to go for a little walk with you to help your food digest
