IN GRANT MONIES RECEIVED DURING THE 2018-2019 ACADEMIC YEAR
T
hrough generous support from foundations and organizations, Gwynedd Mercy
University is able to successfully compete with the nation’s best colleges. This academic
year, GMercyU has received $279,531 in grant monies to fund scholarships, improve
student life, and support other University projects. Read more about a few of the grants
that are providing scholarship support to deserving GMercyU students.
THE W. W. SMITH CHARITABLE TRUST
The W. W. Smith Charitable Trust awarded GMercyU a one-year grant
of $70,000 to fund 28 full-time, undergraduate students with GPAs of
at least 2.5 whose financial needs cannot be met by other aid programs
and who have permanent residence in Bucks, Chester, Delaware,
Montgomery, or Philadelphia counties or in the city of Camden, NJ.
THE CHARLOTTE W. NEWCOMBE FOUNDATION
The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation awarded GMercyU a $35,000
grant to support 30 scholarships for adult students aged 25 and older
who are enrolled full-time in a baccalaureate degree program and have
completed 60 credits towards their degree.
INDEPENDENCE BLUE CROSS FOUNDATION
Independence Blue Cross Foundation awarded Gwynedd Mercy
University three Nurses for Tomorrow Scholarship grants totaling
$44,031 to support 19 students enrolled in the Frances M. Maguire
School of Nursing and Health Professions. The Nurses for Tomorrow
grant program is an invitation-only grant program awarded to
accredited nursing schools in southeastern Pennsylvania. Academic
institutions that meet the Foundation’s general eligibility requirements
may apply for scholarship grant funding for their undergraduate,
graduate, and/or doctoral nursing programs.
THE WINDMILL FOUNDATION
The Windmill Foundation awarded GMercyU two $5,000 scholarships
for the 2018-19 academic year. The first scholarship will support four
mature students who have the desire to complete their bachelor’s
degrees despite incredible challenges. The second $5,000 scholarship
will support one scholarship for Ready to Go, GMercyU’s Study Abroad
Program, which provides personal and professional growth to students
beyond U.S. borders. This year’s Ready to Go experience will provide a
service/study abroad trip to Haiti.
