GMercyU Partners in Nation’s First
Apprenticeship for Public School Teachers
Gwynedd Mercy University is partnering with the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on a first-of-its-kind
apprenticeship for public school teachers in the Norristown
Area School District.
The Apprenticeship to Mastery Program for Public
School Teachers (AMP) will be a two-year non-traditional
apprenticeship program for K-12 public school teachers in the
Norristown Area School District and is a part of Governor Tom
Wolf’s PAsmart initiative that was launched last year.

Strategic Plan Progress
Members of the GMercyU Community have already made significant progress on the University’s five-year Strategic Plan since its
approval in December 2018. Some of the initiatives underway include creating a more engaging website, introducing new programs,
and exploring possible partnerships.
2019 Graduate Awarded Third Place in Video Contest
Gwynedd Mercy University 2019 graduate Nhien Nguyen was awarded third
place in the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas #MakeMercyReal video contest.
The annual contest highlights the many ways students from Mercy-affiliated
institutions “Make Mercy Real.” Videos had to address one or more of the
Critical Concerns of Mercy and either educate the audience about an injustice,
show how an individual or group experiences an injustice, or show how an
individual or group confronts an injustice.
Nhien’s video profiled stories of immigrants in Laredo, Texas. She documented
their stories while participating in service during GMercyU’s Alternative Spring
Break experience.
