Archi what?

Let’ s explain …

Linke Ströhmenger
There are four different categories of professionals registered under the purview of the South African Council for the Architectural Profession( SACAP). This can be confusing for the homeowner or developer who may require appropriate services to undertake a built environment or property-related project. We asked Linke Ströhmenger, President of the South African Institute of Architectural Technologists( SAIAT) to explain the differences.

Q

What are the four SACAP categories? LS: There are four categories of professionals, as officially defined by the Architectural Profession Act( Act 44 of 2000), who may legally practice architecture or do design work in its various forms. They are:
• Professional architect
• Professional senior architectural technologist
• Professional architectural technologist
• Professional architectural draughtsperson

Each category represents a specific level of qualification, experience, and professional competence. Together, they form a collaborative professional framework that ensures every project – regardless of scale or complexity – is handled by a suitably qualified and accountable professional.
