Sculpting a new future

A Sandton icon returns with a bold façade, sculptural interiors, and spaces designed for people and performance.
Through bold and innovative gestures carried out sustainably and responsibly, AMA Architects envisioned a space that meets the specific brief for the Grayston Drive Offices, a key African hub for this international banking giant.
Their extensive work involved a comprehensive overhaul both inside and out. The building’ s exterior has undergone a striking transformation, now adorned with elegant Dekton slabs that redefine its visual narrative. These impressive 3m x 1.2m slabs were carefully affixed to the existing façade, revitalising its architectural expression.
A striking axial entrance, featuring a flushglazed element that extends gracefully from the base to the roof ' s pinnacle, symbolises the building’ s reimagined identity. The harmonious balance of solid and void within its design evokes a bold and contemporary architectural language, emphasised by intricate detailing including refined aluminium trim and refurbished window frames.
These enhancements culminate in a crisp, commanding presence that resonates throughout Sandton.
As visitors approach, they are welcomed by a stunning new porte cochère, which announces guests ' arrival with its magnificent double-height doors at the top of a floating staircase. This eye-catching entrance builds anticipation, while a calming water feature to the left invites guests to take a poetic journey inside the building.
The expansive floor plate encircles a noble atrium, thoughtfully redesigned with new materials and a stunning acoustic ceiling. A bespoke, eye-catching mobile lighting feature, suspended from a sleek underslung steel framework, enhances the sophistication of this lively space by illuminating its centre.
Rich timber cladding, soft wall textures, and perimeter LED lighting come together to create a welcoming atmosphere, enriching the character of the office space. Every element of this refurbishment has been thoughtfully planned, including the tastefully upgraded restrooms, which feature mirrors, wall panelling, and large-format tiles that convey sophistication.
The carefully placed glazing throughout the atrium maintains a vibrant connection between the floors, encouraging vertical interaction and fostering a sense of community.
This intrinsic spatial intelligence fosters interactions between occupants and visitors alike.
