Bee attractive- make your garden buzz

Hey, it’ s summer! Would you like to create a lively, buzzing backyard full of fluttering pollinators? There are plants that attract bees and other pollinators – and they also look fantastic.
Keep reading if you ' re after a garden space that’ s both beautiful and ecofriendly, while supporting a vibrant ecosystem. Some of these grow very quickly, so it’ s never too late to start planting.

The purple coneflower( Echinacea purpurea)
Also known as an ideal natural herbal remedy for treating colds and infections, these bold, daisy-like flowers bloom from midsummer to autumn. They are also rich in nectar. Purple coneflowers thrive in full sun and are drought-tolerant, making them perfect for low-maintenance gardens.

Lavender- French,
English, Margaret Robert Lavenders... all of these are effective!
Not only does it smell wonderful, but lavender is also a major source of pollen for bees. Both bees and butterflies can’ t resist the fragrant purple spikes, and after collecting it, they‘ hive off’ somewhere to support their nests.

Bergamo / Bee Balm
With its funky, tubular blossoms, bee balm is a favourite among sunbirds, bees, and butterflies. It thrives in sunny locations and provides a splash of colour. Humans use it for its herbal and aromatic qualities.

Black-eyed Susan( Rudbeckia)
This is the traditional climbing plant, celebrated for its yellow and orange hues. Classic flowers with black centres bloom for weeks, offering a consistent source of nectar. They’ re hardy, spread easily, and bring a cheerful touch to any pollinator garden.

The Asclepias genus, commonly known as milkweed( English) or melkbos( Afrikaans) Milkweed( Asclepias)
Essential for attracting the African Monarch butterfly. Melkbos provides food for both the caterpillars and nectar for the adults. The brightly coloured, pungent flowers are a must-have for supporting the monarch population.
