For 25 years, Thursday Network has supported the programs of the Greater Washington Urban League by serving the diverse needs of Washington, D.C., Montgomery County and Prince George’s County, MD, Our mission is to provide a place for young professionals to support the GWUL and focus our energies on community service and economic empowerment, as well as our own personal & professional development and civic involvement. Thursday Network members are a part of the legacy of the National Urban League and stand united in the causes of Jobs, Education, Housing and Health.
Created to generate a pipeline of leaders connected to The Urban League Movement, Thursday Network has developed a number of signature programs that impact our community. Our I EMPOWER scholarship has awarded service minded students in D.C. and Maryland with $158,000 towards their college education over the past 25 years. Our Empowerment Academy establishes mentoring programs in D.C. schools, that equips young students with life skills related to the National Urban League Empowerment Goals. Each year, we host Young Blacks Give Back month, to highlight our commitment to service and show that Thursday Network’s young professionals are engaged in the betterment of our neighborhoods. These are just a few of the highlights of our work in the community, as we host these along with a variety of service events each month.
To ensure we are ready to serve, we also place a high premium on the personal and professional development of our members. Through our monthly general body meetings, networking opportunities and connections to the boldest and brightest in the area, we make sure that Thursday Network members are equipped to grow and lead.
As the young professionals auxiliary of the Greater Washington Urban League 2006, 2015 & 2016 National Urban League Young Professionals National Chapter of Excellence, Thursday Network takes the charge of volunteerism, civic engagement, philanthropy, and membership development to heart. This organization is fueled by amazing, dedicated members from a variety of professions, backgrounds and interests. We are resilient in our work Empowering Communities and Changing Lives!
