Campaign Corner
Salvete omnes! I am Emily Caldarelli, and I
have the honor as serving as the 2018-2019
TJCL Parliamentarian. Even though it’s only
November, it’s never too early to start
thinking about running for office! One of the
best ways to show your appreciation and
love for the JCL is to give back by serving as
an officer, as I have learned in just these few
months. With recent changes to our
constitution, it is more important than ever
for our offices to be filled and for you all to
be informed about the process.
There have been several major changes; to
begin with, the office of Secretary will be no
more, with its responsibilities being
absorbed by the offices of 1st Vice President
and Communications Coordinator.
Additionally, unlike previous years, all seven
of our offices will be elected, similarly to the
National JCL. This means that your
involvement in the TJCL is extremely
important, and I encourage you all to
consider running for office.
I know all this talk of becoming an officer
can seem daunting, but it is my job as your
Parliamentarian to make the election
process as smooth and easy as possible for
all of you. That is why I am currently in the
process of creating a new TJCL Campaign
Corner! This will be a comprehensive guide
on everything dealing with elections,
featuring an in-depth description of the
campaigning process at state, along with
helpful advice from all your current officers!
Having been in your shoes just last year, I
completely understand the intimidation that
running for office can bring. After all, every
candidate must give a speech in front of the
entire Tennessee delegation on the second
day of convention. I urge you though to not
let this deter you from running; your
involvement in the TJCL as an officer allows
the entire organization to grow.
Being an officer is so much more than just a
title. The experiences that come with just one
year in office are immeasurably precious. I
can honestly say that the people I’ve met
because of my position are some of the most
reliable, kind, and hardworking people I
know. Not only do you make such important
relationships, you leave your mark on the
TJCL as an officer. We as a board are hoping
to encourage several more candidates from
West and East Tennessee; we hope that by
having greater representation on the board,
we can extend the reach and love of the JCL
farther across our entire state. I
wholeheartedly encourage you all to not let
such a great opportunity to serve the TJCL
pass. If you have any questions at all, please
do not hesitate to contact me!
E corde,
Emily Caldarelli
