MANAGING MY OWN WELLBEING When supporting your sibling, it can be hard to keep the balance between focusing on yourself and your own needs, your sibling, family and their needs. Research has shown that social support reduces psychological and physiological consequences of stress. So go out and talk to someone! Why is it important to take care of yourself? It is important for you to look after yourself both for your own physical and emotional wellbeing because when you are well, you are better at taking care of your siblings! How to take care of your wellbeing Talk honestly and openly with your family about your feelings When difficult times are managed well, it can and will strengthen all members of the family. Talking to your family is an avenue to pour out your feelings and it is where you can find someone who experienced similar things as you. 11
