MILLIE, 16 YEARS OLD, MANCHESTER D ear Ellen I am 16 years old and I have a problem with my parents. They are too oppressive! I don’t have the freedom to decide my own future! They say I have to study something important, a big degree that will help me have a safe job. They want me to become a doctor. I don’t want to be someone that I don’t want to be, or do something that I don’t like or that it doesn’t make me happy. It’s unfair! I want to study music! That’s what I really like and what really makes me happy Can you help me? ELLEN D ear Millie, First, you have to be happy! Not everyone can have such a good and expensive degree. I’m sure doing what you want to do, you’ll be good at it. Second, your parents want you to have a good life with a job that compensates you with a lot of money, you can also think that it is a job to save lives! That’s really great. Why don’t you try to talk with your parents, and you tell them what really makes you happy? If music makes you happy, then fight to be the best musician in the world! Doing whatever you want to do, I’m sure your parents will support you and they always will be proud of you! Ellen By: Jana Gallifa
