I don ’ t want my family or anyone feeling sorry for me . I still try to push forward – to do things and to show people that I can do things for myself . You have to shake yourself off and go on with life . We don ’ t know why God allows some things to happen , but we know that we can still be a testimony to God . That ’ s what I try to do . Sanders shared a few of her favorite recipes : balls . Cook 15-20 minutes until meat is no longer pink ; drain . Sauce : Cook onion , bell pepper and celery until tender ; add garlic and stir . Add tomato sauce , tomato paste and 1 cup water ; stir . Add sugar , basil , oregano and bay leaf . Mix and cook 1 hour ; add meat balls and cook 30 minutes longer .

FRANCES ’ HOMEMADE APPLE CRUNCH 6 large apples , peeled and thinly sliced 1 / 2 cup sugar 1 / 2 teaspoon nutmeg or cinnamon 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 cup brown sugar 1 / 2 cup butter
Heat oven to 325 degrees . Grease 8-inch square baking dish . Spread apples in dish ; top with sugar and sprinkle with nutmeg or cinnamon . Cut-in butter using a pastry cutter or finger until it looks like corn meal . Spread over apples and bake 1 hour . Serve with whipped cream .
FRANCES ’ OLD- FASHIONED BUTTER POUND CAKE Servings : 12 2 cups sugar 1 cup butter 4 large eggs 2 teaspoons vanilla 3 cups all-purpose four 1 / 2 teaspoon baking powder 1 / 2 teaspoon baking soda 1 / 2 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 cup milk
Preheat oven at 350 degrees . Cream sugar with butter until smooth . Add eggs one at a time , continuing to beat ; add vanilla . Sift flour with baking powder , baking soda and salt . Mix lemon juice with milk . Fold in 1 / 3 of the flour and alternate with 1 / 3 of milk ; repeat until finished . Pour into 4 x 10-inch greased loaf pan . Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes .
