Boz Scaggs : Out of the Blues Tour

It ’ s appropriate that Boz Scaggs ’ new album is Out of the Blues , since the blues is what first sparked his five-decade musical career . Born in Canton , Ohio on June 8 , 1944 , he grew up in Oklahoma and Texas , where he spent his teenage years immersed in the blues , R & B and early rock ‘ n ’ roll . Scaggs performed with the Steve Miller Band in San Francisco before achieving massive solo success with the 1976 album Silk Degrees and its three Top 40 hit singles : “ It ’ s Over ,” “ Lido Shuffle ” and the Grammy-winning “ Lowdown .”
“ Music has been a constant companion and I ’ m feeling more free with it than ever ,” Scaggs comments . “ I feel like I ’ ve found my voice through all these years , and I ’ ve gotten closer to where I want to be with my approach .”

Exhibition , “ Mississippi : Lost and
Found ,” Adam Trest
July 26-Nov . 5 The MAX , Downtown Meridian
“ Mississippi : Lost and Found ” is a study of the regions of Mississippi from the coastal meadows to the black prairie and the species , both threatened and common , that make up those ecosystems .
Each region unique and each one holding its own magic and memories , this exhibition is the visual representation of Trest ’ s adventure-filled remembrances on canvas . Drawing inspiration from the traditions and everyday aspects of Southern Culture , Trest ’ s work has been described as “ sophisticated whimsy .” His study of both Early American and Eastern European folk art can be seen in the movement and repetition of his compositions , and his interest in the flora and fauna of the Southeastern United States is evident in the organic forms found in his work .
A Laurel native , Trest is an artist and illustrator whose work has been featured on HGTV ’ s “ Home Town .” Sponsored by The Caron Gallery , Tupelo and Laurel .
