“ Dr . Keith Everett is a retired ophthalmologist who practiced in Meridian for 34 years . Outside of his responsibilities at work , which include overseeing a medical staff of over 200 physicians , Dr . Everett is actively involved in the arts community of Meridian . An accomplished artist , he has won numerous awards for his eclectic style . He is constantly working to keep the arts alive in Meridian and progressing the use of arts in schools .
Dr . Everett donates most of his artwork to local organizations for fundraising auctions or for display in public areas . His love of art has inspired many beginning artists to expand their horizons and he has played an integral role in building up the arts community in Meridian .”

Origins of spirit of altruism : I grew up in Decatur , where I watched my parents and many others in the community give their time and efforts to try to make it the type of community that everyone wanted to live in and instilled in me the importance of trying to make our community , state and nation a better place .
Importance of giving back to the community : Obviously , our community is only going to be as good as we all make it so if we want a great place to live then it is important that everyone try to contribute in one way or another .
Share an aspect of a volunteer experience that you ’ ve really enjoyed . Being fortunate enough to have some of my paintings sold to help raise funds for great causes here in Meridian has been an enjoyable experience . Also , watching our Art Collective from the Meridian Museum of Art as they have planned and completed the public murals in the city has been great .
Community ’ s greatest assets : I think that the generosity and goodwill of the people of Meridian is its greatest asset along with the community ’ s desire and determination to see our downtown and surrounding area transformed and revitalized .
Motto or favorite quote : “ If love is a treasure , laughter is the key .” I feel that humor and laughter are two of the most beneficial and important aspects of life and that we should all try to find something to laugh about every day with others .
• Keith Everett and his wife Darlene have been married 43 years . They have two sons , Stewart and John ( Caroline ), and one grandson , James .
