Less is More

Women over 50 should not use the same makeup application techniques they used in their younger days . Instead of making their skin look more vibrant , those techniques can have the opposite effect of highlighting wrinkles , making the skin look dry and minimizing their best features .
“ As you age , less is definitely more when it comes to applying makeup ,” Chesney said . “ Use makeup to highlight your best features but be conscious of the way you apply your makeup .”
She suggests choosing a lightweight , hydrating foundation and a lightweight concealer because a thicker foundation is going to crease and set into fine lines and wrinkles . “ You can ’ t hide wrinkles , so don ’ t try to because you ’ re only going to draw more attention to them ,” she said .
To avoid using too much product , apply foundation or concealer to the back of your hand first , and then apply it to your face evenly with a brush , Chesney noted .
When choosing a foundation or concealer shade , you should match your skin tone along the side of your face or jawline but keep in mind your undertone , which will be pink , yellow or neutral , she said . You can visit any makeup counter , and they will help you figure out your undertone .
To warm up the skin in a natural way , Chesney suggests using a bronzer to add a look of warmth to the face . “ Choose a warm tone bronzer and just apply it to your temples , under your cheekbones and on your neck to create a natural warm look .”

She recommends a subtle blush color , especially a bronzing color , rather than a bright pink for older women . But , she added , it depends on the person because some women prefer to play up their cheeks rather than their eyes or other features .
“ I love cream blush products , and I think they are great on women over 50 ,” she said , “ but they are a little harder to maneuver if you have been using a brush for years .”
Play Up the Eyes
Chesney said women should not be afraid to play up their eyes .
“ I feel like people tell you to stay away from shimmer when you reach a certain age , but I don ’ t think that ’ s necessary ,” she said . “ I think you can use a shimmer eyeshadow and it will definitely play up your eyes . Just use a more neutral shade and maybe not a glittery shadow .”
She likes using cream eye shadows , which can be a little more subtle and not as glittery as powder formulas . Apply them with your fingers for the best result .
“ Your finger is a great tool to use for your eyeshadow because the heat from your fingers will kind of warm the shadow which will help it blend out a little easier ,” she noted .
Liquid eye liner is a trend right now , but Chesney feels the harsh lines will make a woman over 50 look older . She suggests
