Guide to makeup and hairstyles for women over 50

For women over 50 , nothing lifts their spirits more than
when someone tells them how beautiful they look or mistakes them for being younger than they are .
Ageless makeup and a flattering , timeless hair style should accentuate a woman ’ s natural beauty . However , they can also be a fun way for gracefully aging women to express themselves – from a bright ruby red lipstick choice to curly bangs to lash extensions .
Looking younger as they age is not about trying to look like a 20-year-old but about mature women embracing their wrinkles and flaws and having fun with their makeup and hairstyle .
“ Makeup is something that will instantly make you feel better about yourself . That little confidence it gives you when you see yourself in the mirror ,” said Brynn Chesney , a cosmetologist and freelance hair and makeup artist who lives in Chattanooga , Tennessee .
Chesney , who often works with Indigo Child Salon in her hometown of Meridian , offers several tips for women over 50 on achieving that ageless makeup look and finding the perfect hairstyle .

As a woman ages , her skin starts to lack moisture which causes it to lose some of the radiance and glow of her younger years . Using a moisturizing primer with sunscreen and eye cream are necessary first steps to any makeup routine , Chesney said .
Found at most makeup counters , primers are available in all skin types or can target specific issues , such as bigger pores or uneven skin tones .
“ A primer will ensure that your makeup is going to stay on all day and will even out your skin tone and reduce the appearance of large pores and fine lines ,” she said .
