KIM CULPEPPER

64 , Meridian Director of Education and Training , Tennessee Valley Public Power Association
Culpepper ’ s nominator : “’ Kim has impacted this community both spiritually and professionally . Kim always had one motivation in his life : To spread the love of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to anyone who would listen ; Every move in his life is centered to that .”
Civic , social and church affiliations and offices held : I have served as Worship Leader and Associate Pastor for Evangel Temple Church for most of my Adult life . We have worked with numerous other ministries over the years , such as a collaboration with other music ministries to “ Save the Shelter .” We were also a part of Merry Meridian , a Christmas Celebration . Our Church has , for many years given groceries away to the less fortunate in our area at Christmas .
Spirit of altruism : As a man of faith , I ’ ve always looked to the scriptures for my guidance and direction . I ’ ve been taught that it is more blessed to give than to receive and that everyone is someone to God , so people have been my focus practically all of my life .
Importance of giving back to the community : I love this City and County . I want my grandkids to live , work and raise families here . If this is to be , we must be willing to serve each other . We must create an atmosphere that will make our children want to stay and others want to live here .
An aspect of a volunteer experience really enjoyed : I was asked to lead a mass choir made up of many churches from the surrounding area for a night with Dr . Tony Evans who has a nationally syndicated radio program called the Urban Alternative . It was to raise funds for the Crisis Pregnancy Center . It was a wonderful experience to see several thousand people from all walks of life worshiping together . It was a breath of Heaven .
Our community ’ s greatest asset : To me Meridian ’ s greatest asset is its people . When I was a child Meridian wasn ’ t as diverse as it is today . We have tremendous educational opportunities here with Meridian Community College and MSU branch . Everyone should take advantage of it .
Motto or favorite quote : My favorite quote is found in John 16:33 , “ These things have I spoken unto you , that in me ye might have peace . In the world ye shall have tribulation , but be of good cheer ; I have overcome the world .”
This scripture has brought me peace through many tough times . It keeps me focused on the ultimate victory and no matter what situation I face , I know that it will eventually work for my good .
