BEVERLY NELSON COLE

64 , Meridian Full-time wife , mother and grandmother
Cole ’ s nominator : “ Although she lives off a set income , Mrs . Cole always puts the needs of others before her own . She cooks the homeless hot meals for during winter , and prepares ‘ grab-and-go ’ bags for the spring and summertime . Not only does she feed and clothes those who need it , she also tries to assist them according to their needs . ”
Civic , social and church affiliations and offices held : Sunday School Teacher , active community organizer
Spirit of altruism : I ’ ve always been one that loved helping others in whatever area they need assistance in . I can recall when my kids where younger ( all nine ) and I still found the time to help my community and church in whatever area I could . My love for helping others has always ran through my blood .
Importance of giving back to the community : The Bible says “ Do unto others as you would have them do unto you ” and I honestly believe in order to say that God is pleased with me , I only pass / give out what I would want in return if the shoe was on the other foot .
An aspect of a volunteer experience really enjoyed : I love when my children and grandchildren as well as my great grandchildren , load up and go out into the community with me to feed the homeless . We have family time together and we are doing something that the younger generation enjoy doing and I pray that they will continue to serve others when they get older .
Our community ’ s greatest asset : The greatest asset is there is plenty of people willing to help those less fortunate without being in the limelight such as myself .
Motto or favorite quote : It ’ s better to have and not need than to need and not have . Because you never know when you can be a blessing to someone else with what you have an abundance of .
