The Phoenixville Area Time Bank (PATB) in Phoenixville, PA is having its 10th birthday! No more single digits. They have a lot to celebrate.
As of April 24, 2014, PATB had 190 members, 7,055 exchanges, and 21,122 hours exchanged.
Over this last decade PATB has had a variety of fantastic community events, including, but not limited to: potlucks (even some veggie ones) throughout the year, picnics, BBQs, book clubs, cooking clubs, game days,, and trash clean-ups.
PATB members also have teamed up with community groups such as the green team to help with the environment. Members who participate in the Phoenixville Area Artist's Network via their Artist Group to share and talk about each other’s artwork.
PATB also takes part in farmer’s markets, city festivals & sustainability fairs. Their members are very committed with spreading the values of time banking. In fact, they have a table at their farmer’s market every Saturday, rain or shine, and a group orientation at the Library every month.

Sometimes the PATB teams overlap. For example the Green Team helped with the recycling and trash at the town’s Firebird Festival combined with the boy scouts. PATB members have also helped with the construction of the traditional firebird for the festival pictured on the cover.
The Firebird Festival is one of the strongest and most beloved festivals with thousands of people attending. PATB is going into their third year associated with the Firebird Festival. The PATB has developed a very powerful and supportive community. They warmly welcome their new members by spotlighting them in their online newsletter.
They also help each other’s businesses through their business card exchange. In 2013, the PATB was active in regional networks and partnerships. At their annual meeting they had eight different Time Banks and exciting regional speakers, including TimeBanks USA founder, Dr. Edgar Cahn.
In their President’s Report, the PATB proudly announced their help with forming the North Atlantic Regional Time Bank Association, to help work on their issues while helping other Time Banks form, and holding workshops. The PATB also increased programming with the Latino Buddies initiative.
As part of their celebrations, Alexandra Ferris, their Time Bank’s Secretary reminisced about their beginnings. A group of seven attended a talk given by TimeBanks USA founder Dr. Edgar Cahn in February 2004. They attended a workshop and formed the first Kitchen Cabinet. By the summer of 2004, they had 29 members as the Valley Forge Time Bank, working with an Excel Spread Sheet for service exchanges.
Several national conferences and many, many meetings later, they decided to form a non-profit. In 2007, they officially became the Phoenixville Area Time Bank dedicated to serve our elders, convalescents, and disabled.
With the economic crash of 2008, they doubled their membership to around 150, and added the category un/underemployed to their mission!
The PATB started their celebration on Monday, April 14 and will continue the festivities all summer long. Happy Birthday!!! May you have many more strong and vibrant years to come.
