Toying with Caravans
BY ALAN STEVENS
Bumper sticker spotted at the Broken
Hill National Vintage Caravan Rally
Japanese toymaker Modern Toys made vibrant coloured cars
and popular trucks from the 1940s through until the 1960s
Their friction powered cars had towbars and there
were a series of 1950s caravans to match.
This particular caravan is not an orginal, but rather a tiny teardrop
stamped - Fox Australia, which matches up pretty well.
Have you seen a funny sign
while roaming Australia?

Kondinin WA 6367
Located in WA’s wheatbelt, 267km east of Perth, Kondinin has one of
Australia’s most photographed fuel stops – possibly the last remaining
Golden Fleece roadhouse. Golden Fleece was one of the country’s most
recognized brands from 1913 through to the early 1980s when it was
taken over by Caltex and a little bit of Australiana disappeared forever –
except in Kondinin!
