Dometic supplied the final creature comfort for
our makeover – a compact Saphir reverse cycle
airconditioning unit. Installed under the bed, there are
air outlets in the bedroom and the kitchen area of the
caravan. Weighting just 20kg, it warms up and cools
down the caravan in minutes and has remarkable low
power consumption. There’s a handy remote, so you don’t
have to get out of bed to change settings in the night, or
you can set a sleep function before you hit the sack.

A 150 watt Solar Panel was installed on the roof
and twin Exide batteries were cleverly added
underneath the dinette seats. Now Dolce is
liberated from mains power with a solar system
and batteries that pack some serious power.
The Exide Stowaway Leisure Cycle batteries
use Absorbed Glass Matt (AGM) Technology.
They are robust, spill and leak proof and
importantly, have no gas emissions. They’re
designed for long cycling operations in extreme
temperatures. One of the best features is they
can be mounted horizontally or vertical making
them perfect for tough adventure travel (not
that we will be taking Dolce on rough roads).

The most difficult decision when it came to the makeover was the
outdoor features which really have altered the appearance of the
van. As it turned out, there were no regrets at all about installing
an external RV Media speaker and Fiama fold out awning.
The speaker unit comes with inbuilt LED lights and
is available in black or white. It easily connects with a
Bluetooth smartphone or tablet and comes with a remote
that can work up to 10M away. It also features an inbuilt LED
torch and comes with a remote cradle for easy storage.
The 3.5m Fiamma Awning really is a must-have. It has an easy
to use detachable winder, telescopic legs, mounting brackets
and lower leg support kit. The Fiamma Awning would be a great
addition to any RV to make the most of the outdoors year-round.
With the aim of keeping the caravan looking as original
as possible, we selected Camec’s Jack Outdoor Antenna
