Iconic vans and destinations
If you love caravans like we do , there ’ s nothing more fun than a vintage caravan rally . People are always friendly and just love showing off their vans .
The recent vintage caravan get together at Crescent Head NSW was no exception . There was such a great turn out of vans from the 1930s through to the 1960s , all polished up and gleaming in the sun .
Sometimes I wonder how many of today ’ s caravans and motorhomes will still be around and treasured in 50 years time . If they ’ re well made and looked after there ’ s no reason why they shouldn ’ t last . In this issue we feature two local manufacturers going to great lengths to build world-class caravans and motorhomes .
Our caravan review looks at the first Australian-made Winnebago and how it measures up to the world ’ s most famous RV brand name . We reckon the US parent would be impressed .
We also review Frontline ’ s latest Aussiemade version of the classic Kombi camper . As you ’ ll see , it ’ s so good , there ’ s no sign VW will be importing its own European version anytime soon .
For the Kombi cover shoot we took the family up to the hills of Nimbin NSW to capture both old and new versions , in the evening shadows of the mysterious Nimbin Rocks .
You can read all about Nimbin and its quirky attractions in our travel section . We ’ re proud to call the Northern Rivers of NSW our home now and we ’ d love you to come visit ! Travelling further south , Mal and Laraine Leyland have been taking in the sights along the Great Ocean Road . Once again they weave in the local history with their review of local attractions .
I hope you enjoy the magazine and until next time , Happy Roaming !
