MIND THE GAP
The Toblerone gap may be the most tragic event of 2016. Nougat lovers from far and wide took to twitter to air their views on the “stupid” new Toblerone shape; and it wasn’t long before Brexit was to blame.
The company released a statement via their Facebook page to announce the change. It was a difficult decision between raising the price and changing the overall look of the bars due to the cost of ingredients. The result? The loss of 40g of chocolaty goodness.
"We carry these costs for as long as possible, but to ensure Toblerone remains on-shelf, is affordable and retains the triangular shape, we have had to reduce the weight of just two of our bars in the UK, from the wider range of available Toblerone products."
A spokesperson for Toblerone has said that the exchange rate is currently "not favourable", but went on to say that "This change wasn't done as a result of Brexit." despite the new shape only being sold in the UK, not the rest of Europe. Coincidence? I think not.
2016.
