Bowie was an innovator, a musical chameleon. He did whatever it took to stay relevant and to continue making artistic statement after statement – something that he had dedicated his entire life to. Bowie was the embodiment of his art, right up to the very end. – I mean come on, He even survived the New Wave era! And no one thought that any respectable artist was going to come out of that alive.

David Jones was born in London on the 8th of January 1947 – and picked up a saxophone for the first time at aged 13; which inspired him to play with numerous bands on the live music circuit in London. Bowie’s early work is strides away from the revolutionary work that was to come . He was still stuck in the rut of a typical singer-songwriter of the era. All of which was to change dramatically after his short stint at a Buddhist monastery in Scotland; more importantly, this was when he met Tony Visconti who brought the early Bowie to life, and continued to shift with him throughout his turbulent career.

I remember waking up on the 10th of January 2016, to the sound of some sort of deranged scream. I realised that I could hear a panicked “HES DEAD, HES DEAD” through the paper thin plaster boards of the flat as I started to come around. I’m not one to jump to conclusions but the first thing to come to mind was that one of my flatmates had died, but the realisation that it was in fact, Bowie that had died was far worse.
