KZN furniture factory
expands production capacity
The recent implementation and commissioning of CMC's KDT
panel processing machinery in Durban KZN allowed this high
production furniture factory (unnamed) to increase its production
capacity by 60%.

T
he significant upgrade to open two additional
factories will establish a KwaZulu-Natal furniture
company as one of the major players in the market to
produce cost-efficient products to the retail sector.
On the assembly and commissioning phase of the first
factory the KDT technical team, in conjunction with the
CMC group of technicians, assembled the high production
side loading beamsaws that produces all the cut material
for the edgebanding and drilling stations. The 838L side
loading beamsaw can produce about 400 cut sheets per
shift. The machine allows cutting six full sheets in a single
cutting cycle with complete optimisation software and
increased motor power.
On the edgebanding processing machinery, the Durban
client opted for high speed standard carcass edging
machinery capable of edging at 23m/minute up to 3mm
impact edging. On the specialised edging, which includes
pre-milling and corner rounding on high speed, the model
468JK suited their needs and these four machines cope
very well with the two beamsaws put in position. The
improvements on the auto lubrication on the linear slides,
on all the trimming units on the edgebanders significantly
improves downtime and setting.
The KDT throughfeed boring machinery makes its mark
on quick accurate panel production cycles with return and
throughfeed options. High speed drilling requires a high-
level of accurate horizontal and vertical boring heads
activated at the same time to clamp drill and release at
high speed. The switchgear on this machine range plays a
critical role in timing procedures and KDT went with the
latest delta plc’s and inverter drives. These machines also
need to consist of a structure that allows a solid stabili
