COVER STORY Although only the highest quality of structural steel is used, Unilam’s modernisation of the production process has enabled the company to maintain relatively low manufacturing costs which ultimately benefits the customer. TRUSS4 DESIGN SOFTWARE In 2016, Unilam partnered with a roof truss design software called the Truss4. This partnership gave way to a new approach of effectively moving engineered products directly from the factory to the customer. The company has successfully achieved system membership with the Institute of Timber Construction South Africa (ITC-SA). Developed in the Czech Republic, the software was initially created for the European market with roof engineers as the primary end users. It was designed to make the project input as simple as possible while having the ability to produce complex roof outputs. As a result, Truss4 is able to solve various problems commonly associated with both simple and elaborate roof structures. The software gives the user the freedom and flexibility to easily create any and all desired truss shapes. Although Truss4 was designed in the Czech Republic, it is up to date with the most recent changes and adheres to the South African National Standards (SANS). The trusses will always be designed to work within the boundaries of the limit states as set out in the SANS standards. One of the unique features of the software is that it is constantly being improved to cater to the fabricator’s current and ever-changing needs. An added benefit is that it can be set up to match the user’s preferences. Unilam’s aim is to improve the quality within the truss industry and to give its customers the competitive edge. The company endeavours to build up the timber truss market and to give every one of its truss fabricators the ability to contribute to a better building environment. “The truss fabricator's aim is to please every client that steps through their door. Unilam gives the fabricator the ability to give the client what he wants in the shortest timeframe,” Smal adds. Unilam offers in-depth and comprehensive on-site training to fabricators to ensure that they are well aquatinted with the software and able to use it to its full capability. The timber truss design software has a dedicated team of engineers who are constantly aspiring to make the software more user friendly and relevant to today’s market requirements. Unilam’s impressive manufacturing facility, coupled with its formidable team of highly-skilled tool makers and www.timberiq.co.za “We have an ISO9001 certification that ensures all our products and services are of good quality and within specs,” says Thea Smal, a civil engineer from Unilam Pressings. Truss4 makes it possible to create any truss shape that is desired. engineers enable the company to render products of the finest quality at extremely competitive prices. • Truss4 software advantages • User friendly • Safe and economical • Huge savings • Accurate estimates • Fast analysis • Time saving // DECEMBER 2019 / JANUARY 2020 17
