For the past 36 years, the Lucas Quality Thatchers team has been committed to continuously redefining the limits of thatching. This includes the developing, testing and implementing new designs with the focus on reaching the ultimate goal: a safer and better thatching solution.

Ask any thatched roof owner; and they will tell you that fire protection is a constant concern. This was the driving force behind the improvement and development of fire protection systems.
Two main concepts emerged from continued research with regards to fire protection: new automated drencher systems and the closed construction concept. Both developments focus on providing a beautifully thatched roof; while eliminating the fear and the dangers of fire and thatch.
AUTOMATED DRENCHER SYSTEM
Even though their existing automated drencher system has been in use for the past 15 years; the company invested in redeveloping and upgrading the functions of the current system. After a lengthy process and the use of numerous resources; the first upgraded version of the drencher system has been commissioned at the Elsenburg Manor House and Lucas Quality Thatchers is very happy with its performance.
The drencher control panel is wired to several smoke sensors to detect any fire, or possible threat that can cause a fire. If the customer is aware of any imminent threat, such as veld fires, they can activate the system via their cell phone.
The control panel can report the current status to the customer as well as receive instructions.
