OWWA marks 37th Anniversary
upholding commitment to duty and
service to OFWs and their families

he Overseas Workers
Welfare Administra-
tion (OWWA) ob-
serves its 37th year
last May 3, 2019, with
a renewed commit-
ment to carry on its
mandate of uphold-
ing the welfare and
protection of its member-OFWs and
their families with new and improved
programs and services.
This year’s theme, “OWWAcares@37: Kalingang Matapat, Serbisyong
Maagap” exemplifies the current thrusts of the welfare agency. These
are the enhancement of the social benefits and reintegration programs,

broadening of membership coverage, strengthening of its overseas op-
eration with more welfare officers and personnel, digitized processing of
membership and program transactions, and additional communication
line and web-based platform for messaging and information dissemination.
OWWA Central office held its austere celebration with a mass, bazaar
showcasing the products manufactured and sold by OFWs, raffle and
games for OWWA employees, and to be highlighted by the unveiling of a
photo exhibit resonating the theme. A simple program at the Multi-Pur-
pose Hall of its central office will have Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III
in attendance.
OWWA’s 37th Anniversary will be celebrated in similar fashion in 17
OWWA regional welfare offices and 33 overseas posts.
“OWWA, under the baton of DOLE, has been working painstakingly
onsite and here in the country to implement the agency’s mandate. The
mission to help the OFWs and their families is round-the-clock, seven days
a week. It’s non-stop. So, on your special day, you are given a few hours
to celebrate your dedication and achievements as the primary welfare
agency for the OFWs and their families,” said Sec. Bello.
Addressing the OWWA family, OWWA Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac
said, “Let us congratulate ourselves for reaching this far as the primary
welfare agency and membership institution of the Overseas Filipino Work-
ers. There were rough roads along the way but here we are today, grow-
ing in number and in achievements.”
