TIM eMagazine Vol.3 Issue 8 Credits: culturalcenter.gov.ph Cecile Licad An evening with Chopin with the Pianists’ Pianist A n all-Chopin Solo Piano concert was rendered with style, grace, a sense of daring and passion by globally acclaimed Filipina Steinway pianist Cecile Licad will perform an all Chopin Solo Piano concert last Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the Manila Polo Club. Billed as Cecile Licad: I Love Chopin, the perfor- mance highlighted Ms. Licad playing on the new Steinway B-211 piano. A child prodigy who, at sev- en had her first concert at the Philippine Philhar- monic Orchestra and recipient of prestigious music awards that include the Leventrill Gold Medal at 19, Ms. Licad further honed her natural talent at the Curtis Institute of Music under the tutelage of three of the greatest pianists of that time: Rudolf Serkin, Mieczuslaw Horszowski and Seymor Lipkin. Dubbed as the ‘pianists’ pianist’ by renowned music critics Ms. Licad is esteemed for her awesome performances of the greatest classical works that run the gamut from Bartok, Prokofiev and Rachmaninoff to Brahms, Mendelsson and Mozart. Cecile Licad: I Love Chopin was presented by Philippine Airlines, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra Society, Inc. (PPOSI) and Childhope Philippines, Inc. Also providing more support for this concert were First Gen, HSBC, Steinway Boutique Manila, Inc. Ayala Corp., Megaworld Cor- poration, Malayan Insurance Company, Inc., The Peninsula Manila, Sam- sonite, and art and culture patron Danny Dolor. Proceeds of this one-night engagement will benefit both PPOSI and Childhope, Philippines. PPOSI is a non-stock, non-profit organization whose advocacy is the welfare of the members of the Philippine Philhar- monic Orchestra (PPO), providing uniform, accessories and spare parts of musical instruments, scholarships for advanced degrees in music, and a gratuity fund for the retired members, among other concerns. Childhope Philippines Inc. is a foundation that has cared for over 10,000 street children since 1989.
