hree fishermen were rescued by the Coast
Guard after they were reported missing while on
fishing venture off the coast in Southern Leyte
last Sunday, 02 September.
The rescued fishermen were identified as
Jomar Anajao (22 y.o.), and two minors, both
age 15 all residents of Barangay Fatima, Liloan,
Southern Leyte.
According to reports received in the Coast
Guard Action Center, said fishermen were last
seen on 01 September at around 9PM two nautical miles away from
vicinity waters off Barangay Candayuman, Liloan.
0n 02 September, Coast Guard Sub Station Liloan personnel and
Coast Guard K-9 team conducted search and rescue operation from
Barangay San Roque to Barangay Caligangan, Liloan but yielded
with negative result. At around 2PM on the same day, while tran-
siting at Cabalian Bay, the team sighted the fishermen onboard a

non-motorized boat. The Coast Guard immediately towed the boat
from said bay enroute to Barangay San Roque, Liloan
Further investigation revealed that the three fishermen depart-
ed Barangay Candayuman, Liloan onboard their unmotorizedboat
on September 01 at around 8PM. Unfortunately, said fishermen
encountered big waves and strong winds due to thunderstorms
prevailing in the area and drifted to Cabalian Bay. However, they
managed to paddle their banca and took shelter to the nearest
shoreline. They decided to conduct minor repair of the damages
incurred in their banca and continue paddling back to Liloan before

Passenger vessel catches fire in Cebu

CG: Merchant Vessel (MV) “Lite Ferry 28” caught
fire at approximately 300 meters away from
Taloot Port Argao, Cebu yesterday afternoon,
September 2.
According to the report, MV “Lite Ferry 28” was
enroute to Cebu Port from Tagbiliran, Bohol with
97 passengers, 27 crew and four rolling cargoes onboard
when the incident transpired.
Immediately, PCG's Multi-Role Response Vessel (MRRV)
4404 “BRP Capones” was directed to proceed in the
incident area to render necessary assistance.

the passengers and crew of the vessel to be transferred to
Landing Craft Tank (LCT) “Miami” which was plying nearby
the incident area.
All passengers and crew were safely disembarked at
Argao Port.
At 3:45PM of the same day, the fire was declared
“controlled” by MRRV 4404.
Boarded by CGSS Argao and Bureau of Fire Protection
personnel, the distress vessel was later towed by LCT
“Miami” and escorted by MRRV 4404 to Taloot Wharf,
Argao, Cebu for safety and further investigation. www.
