rattan that have equally proven to be sturdy, Manosa
is best remembered for his principle that ‘architecture
must suit local conditions.’ His concept of basing his
designs and planning on the simple nipa hut or “bahay
kubo” is living proof that this humble abode can be
‘infused with today’s design materials and technology
yet retaining design elements that are distinctively
Filipino.’ Manosa’s concept of utilizing indigenous
materials is also environment-friendly, which he has
consistently practiced in his profession decades even
before ‘green architecture’ became a buzzword.
Among the most prominent works of Manosa that
reflect his ingenuity in design coupled with his
pragmatic advocacy of using local materials include:
the The Tahanang Filipino (Coconut Palace), The San
Miguel Corporation headquarters and the JMT
Corporate buildings along the Ortigas Business District,
the Pearl Farm in Davao, the Amanpulo Resort in Palawan,
Mactan Shangri-La Hotel and Resort along Lapu-Lapu
in Cebu City, the Mary Immaculate Parish Church in
Las Pinas and the Lanao del Norte Capitol Building in
Tubod, Lanao del Norte, among several others, including
residences in posh subdivisions in the country. www.

essential to the Filipino identity. He passed away at age 88 on February 20, 2019 due to
