he late National Artist for Architecture Francisco
‘Bobby’ T. Mañosa was given a grand tribute by
Cultural Center of the Philippines and the National
Commission for Culture and the Arts through a state
necrological ceremony held at the CCP Main Theater
Sunday, February 24, 2019. Interment took place at
the Libingan ng mga Bayani after the necrological
services.
The event began with the Arrival Honors led by
the Philippine Navy at the CCP Front Lawn, followed
by a procession at the Ramp and the Necrological Rites. Fellow National
Artists paid homage to Mañosa, who had made significant contributions
to Philippine Architecture.
Mañosa, who was known as the ‘Father of Philippine Neo-vernacular
Architecture,’ was conferred the National Artist Awards in 2018 for his
valuable contribution to the development, preservation and promotion of
the Philippine Architecture, which is essential to the Filipino identity. He
passed away at age 88 on February 20, 2019 due to lingering illness.
As a true Filipino master builder who advocated the use of local and
indigenous materials in architecture such as bamboo, coconut shell and
