Maritime The Mission to Seafarers Launches First Maritime Education Pack for Primary Schools A n education pack aimed at primary school pupils has been launched by The Mission to Seafarers (MtS), and designed to be used in the classroom to educate young children on the impact the maritime industry has upon them and wider society. The Flying Angel Education Resource has been designed with leading education consultants to increase awareness and visibility of the maritime industry amongst school children in line with the National Curriculum. The resource, which has gained backing from the Education Secretary, Damian Hinds, will show young people how goods are transported all over the world, as well as give an insight into the way the maritime industry impacts their lives on a daily basis. The pack was put together in response to the growing discussion amongst maritime industry stakeholders and education specialists to educate young pupils about how international trade impacts their lives, as well as to fuel awareness of the maritime industry in a bid to secure the next generation of industry colleagues. Noting its launch on World Maritime Day 2018, International Maritime Organisation Secretary-General, Kitack Lim said, “The maritime sector offers great opportunities, both at sea and ashore. Initiatives which raise awareness about the sector and reach out to young people are a very valuable way to engage and inspire the next generation.” Commenting on the charity’s new resource, Director of Development, Jan Webber said: “We are delighted to launch this education resource as part of our wider education initiative. By working with schools and teachers, we will be educating young minds on the importance of where things come from and how they get there. A big thank you to everyone who has worked closely on this, especially Rosie McCreanor and Stella Murray who have poured their expertise into ensuring its relevance to cross-curriculum education.” www.missiontoseafarers.org Credits : GetImage.aspx The Flying Angel Education Resource combines a mixture of informative and interactive activities for teachers and pupils to engage in.
