When Goliath Triumphed
I
t was an unexpected thing to take place, the sudden
exit of Capt. Ely Diaz as top man of SCTW.
Here was a man who was known for doing his job
so well, whose leadership proved that he can battle
the odds to put back order, system and respect in
a maritime industry subsector where taking the
easy way seems to be the norm and where obscured
transactions create wonders-- even among those
un q ualified to earn their ranks and ratings. Call it a
classic case of David and Goliath--but in this case it was
the bureaucratic Goliaths that seemed to win over a
hapless David, whose competence and determination to
clean things up was much more needed in the industry
today.
If only we in the sector can learn to reverse this setting
and make that David triumph over those decadent
beings. But how can we make this really take place, once
and for all, for the good of the industry?
