TIM eMagazine Vol.2 Issue 3 NPC Deputy Privacy Commissioner Damian Mapa talks Data Privacy to HR Practitioners M AKATI CITY, June 6, 2017—NPC Deputy Privacy Commissioner Damian Mapa met with HR practitioners at today’s “Data Privacy Act: HR Accountabilities and Liabilities” event organized by GlobalSign, Archive One, and Utimaco, three of the most credible online security providers in the country, to discuss the Data Privacy Act and how data privacy should be enforced in every office in the country. Damian Mapa discussed the importance of privacy and a company’s ability to uphold it. “In today’s data-driven economy, privacy has become the proxy for trust: if you allow my privacy to be breached, you lose my trust, and if you lose my trust, you lose my business,” Mapa stressed in his speech. He explained the structure of RA 10173 that highlights the rights of everyone as data sub- jects, namely the right to be informed, the right to object, and the right to block or remove, among others. The NPC Deputy Commissioner also stated the responsibilities of every company in enforcing data privacy that includes upholding privacy rights, appointing privacy data officers, and setting up a data protection framework and breach reporting procedures.
