PH Navy launches strategy
book for maritime security
P
hilippine Navy (PN), through the Office of Naval Strategic
Studies, held the book launching for the 2017 version of
the Active Archipelagic Defense Strategy (AADS v2017) at
the Multi-Purpose Hall, HPN on November 09, 2017. The
event was graced by the Flag Officer In Command, PN Vice
Adm. Ronald Joseph S. Mercado as the keynote speaker.
According to him, “a strategy, no matter how authoritative
and dynamic, will not serve its purpose if not fully understood and
executed”. AADS v2017 is the strategic guide of PN operations, and the
organization’s commitment to protect our seas and secure the future
of the Filipino people. First promulgated in 2013, the current version of
AADS aligns the naval strategy with the strategic goals and objectives
of the National Security Policy and National Military Strategy. This book
likewise accounts for a joint operational environment in view of the
AFP’s Joint Operating Concept, the Land Power Strategy of the Philippine
Army, and the Integrated Air Defense Strategy of the Philippine Air Force.
AADS is part of the Navy’s efforts to be a strategy-driven organization
and requires the commitment and sustained efforts of all PN personnel.
The launching of its 2017 version manifests the constant review of the
strategic direction of the PN as the security dynamics of the 21st century
continue to shift to the maritime currents.

For the Philippines to earn a higher position,
stressed Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA)
Administrator MARCIAL Q.C. AMARO III, is
attributed to the strong and progressive
administration of Philippine President Rodrigo
Duterte as well as the highly esteemed reputation
of Filipino seafarers in the global maritime sector.
Government statistics state that over 25 percent
of the 1.5 million seafarers globally are Filipinos,
whose remittances contribute US$5.75 billion to
national coffers.
