THE PHILIPPINE BOAT BUILDING ROAD
MAPPING SEMINAR CUM WORKSHOP
T
he Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA),
through its Shipyards Regulation Service (SRS) has
organized and sponsored a Boat Building Road
Mapping Seminar cum Workshop which was at-
tended by its technical personnel and the boatbuild-
ing industry stakeholders at The Heritage Hotel Ma-
nila, Roxas Blvd. corner EDSA, Pasay City, Manila,
Philippines held last December 08 – 09, 2016.
The activity was specifically aimed at shaping
the boatbuilding industry’s future as a vital part on the development of
the Philippines’ maritime industry.
Capt. Alfredo V. Vidal, Officer-In-Charge of the Office of the
Deputy Administrator for Operations of MARINA, in welcoming the
participants has recognized the undeniable importance of an integrat-
ed and coordinated nationwide transport network. According to Capt.
Vidal, the extensive use of boats in marine transportation is due to the
archipelagic condition of the country apart from the growing demand
of the tourism sector.
Correspondingly, the boatbuilding industry should be developed
and sustainable in order to constantly build or produce affordable, safe,
reliable, efficient and environmentally friendly boats that will ultimate-
ly and effectively connect the islands of the country.
In the seminar-workshop several inputs and information were
presented which had greatly helped the participants in their output for
the Boatbuilding Industry Roadmap. The following are the presenters
during the activity with their corresponding presentations:

2.Engr. Sammuel T. Lim (Society of Naval Architects and Marine
Engineers): Philippine Naval Architecture and Ship/Boat Designs
3.Mr. Marco T. Tronqued and Engr. Eugene T. Supangan (Boating Industry
Association of the Philippines): Promotion of the Philippine Boating Industry

11.Ms. Geraldine E. Evangelista (MARINA-Franchising Service):
Issuance of Certificate of Public Convenience
*Participants in the seminar-workshop were also grouped in order to
cover in their respective discussions and output of the following topic:
*Policy Review and Regulatory Environment in Boatbuilding Industry;
*Incentives and Financing for the Boatbuilding Industry;
*Quality Environment, Health and Safety in the Boatbuilding Industry;
*Capacity Building for the Boatbuilding Industry;
*Technology Innovation in the Boatbuilding Industry; and
*Boatbuilding Industry Stakeholders Engagement.
Outputs from the groups of the participants were all discussed led by
Engr. Hernandez including timelines of the actions to be undertaken in
order to develop and enhance the Philippine Boatbuilding Industry.
In closing the Activity, the MARINA’s Shipyards Regulation Service
Director II, Engr. Hernandez further seek and encouraged the support
from the stakeholders to include concerned government agencies in
developing the Philippine Boatbuilding Industry. He likewise ensured
that inputs during the activity were all duly taken and that MARINA,
through the SRS will include the same in its Plans and Pro
