Moratorium on accreditation of maritime training courses lifted by MARINA
L ast December 14 , the Maritime Industry Authority ( MARINA ) lifted the moratorium on the accreditation of maritime training courses with the issuance of SCTW Advisory 2016-25 .
This advisory repeals SCTW 2016-01 and instead replaces it with this new one which , in accordance to PD 474 , RA 10635 , adopts the recognition of efforts of Maritime Training Institutions in providing quality education and training for Filipino seafarers ; the recognition of furthering the roles of MTIs as partners in implementing training requirements as mandated by SCTW Convention ; and encouraging fair and just competition of delivery and conduct of education and training for Filipino seafarers .
All existing MTIs intending to offer new programs or courses shall first be required to apply for accreditation as Recognized Training Centre with MARINA SCTW Office . Moreover , the newly formed MTIs that intend to offer new programs or courses shall likewise comply with the existing MARINA circulars , policies , rules and regulations in the accreditation of Maritime Training programs or courses . Submission of fraudulent or fake documents or cloned , pirated or imitation equipment / simulators shall be grounds for disapproval of the application for accreditation .
