JICA Turnovers
Training Equipment
to NMP

he donation is under the grant aid
from the Government of Japan for the
implementation of the NMP Programme
for Rehabilitation and Recovery from
Typhoon Yolanda. This include the
delivery, installation and commissioning
of training equipment/simulators that
consist a Tanker-type Totally Enclosed Lifeboat and Davit;
Fast Rescue Boat and Davit; Full Mission Global Maritime
Distress Safety System Simulator; Full Mission Engine
Room Simulator and various Safety Equipment.
In his message, NMP OIC Executive Director Manuel C.
Roldan reported the agency’s state after the devastation
of typhoon Yolanda particularly its damages to NMP
buildings, facilities and equipment. He later presented its
condition after interventions were made through the JICA
grant. “Through the efforts of the people who have the
heart, especially the government of Japan through the
JICA, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude of this
project.” Director Roldan expressed.
The Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines HE Mr.
Kazuhide Ishikawa, was represented by First Secretary Koji
Otani who read his message. “When disasters happen we
should not just recover from it but reconstruct in such a
way that it could mitigate damage by next disaster. The
equipment rehabilitation of the NMP that we turned-over
today was designed with the build back better policy in
mind.” goes the message of the Ambassador.
“The restoration of the equipment of NMP is critical in
its role of providing competences to seafarers from the
Visayas and Mindanao regions. With this assistance we
hope to help the Philippines to train world-class seafarers
and at the same time provide equipment that will be used
in times of disasters.” Secretary Otani relayed further.
Capt. Hiroshi Sekine, President of the Japan Marine
Science, confirmed that the equipment were installed
properly and the project was successfully completed.
“We are confident that these equipment will go a long
way to strengthen the NMP’s functions and eventually
further develop maritime education and training in the
Philippines.” he added.
The ceremony also highlighted the turn-over of the
11
