It will be more fun in PHL in 2017
I n contrast to its ASEAN powerhouse neighbours , Thailand and Singapore , the Philippines may experience what can be best said as one-third of the total tourism arrivals that the two countries proudly boast . While this may be dismal in the eyes of some , this may be good news to others , especially among potential travelers who wish to experience more unique experiences vis-à-vis other more popular ( yet overpublicized and at times , overcrowded ) places , and to our own tourism sector officials who can tap the potentials of other emerging markets who will be those visitors who want to check out the Philippines for a refreshing change . It has always been said that the Philippines is Asia ’ s best kept secret . It is , for many good reasons . With more than 7000 islands , the Philippines takes pride in nine UNESCO World Heritage sites . It also has that unique fusion of East and West , with Hispanic , Chinese , Malay , Indian and Muslim influences in its art and culture , cuisine and even fashion . It boasts of tropical biodiversity , exotic produce and herbs and even untouched , still pristine wonders of nature along our shore lines , under water and along those heights fit for recharging drained batteries or rejuvenating the mind and spirit . Not to mention , medical tourism is one sector where the Philippines excels in it . The Medical City , Saint Luke ’ s , Asian Hospital and even government-operated health institutions like the Quezon City-based Heart , Kidney and Lung centres have won praises by overseas patients due to their global-class service and amenities being offered . All these and more definitely conjure the Philippines as one of the most attractive destinations in South-east Asia . In the light of growing intra-regional trade and investment opportunities , the Philippines also presents itself as a timely destination for emerging markets that sit within our doorstep . While there are still the ‘ traditionals ’ coming from the EU , Japan , South Korea and the US , other new markets which the Philippines will be a destination gold mine include China and Russia , with its millions of potential outbound tourists fueled by their robust economies . The nicest thing is , the campaign ‘ It ’ s More Fun In the Philippines ’ will still be kept , as Tourism Secretary Wanda T . Teo proudly told news media recently . While Ms . Teo stressed that this campaign will help maintain the distinct branding of the Philippines as a unique destination , she proudly added that it will be levelled up to greater heights to showcase our country ’ s warm , friendly people that blend perfectly with our unique natural and cultural assets , as well as very interesting diversions that truly make our country an extraordinary experience .
