Educate and Duplicate : Be the Light and Multiply
The Hebrew root for Chanukah means both “ dedicate ” and “ educate .” This dual meaning underscores our mission to train others in God ’ s ways , beginning with ourselves . Yeshua , the Living Word , is our ultimate example of this . He is the “ Shamash ” candle , the servant light that ignites the other candles . We are to follow His example by living in a way that inspires and equips others to shine .
As Peter reminds us , “ You are a chosen people , a royal priesthood , a holy nation ... that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light ” ( 1 Peter 2:9 ).
Yeshua declared , “ I am the light of the world . The one who follows Me will no longer walk in darkness , but will have the light of life ” ( John 8:12 ). We are called to walk in that light , shining brightly in a dark world .
This season challenges us to consider how we are using the light God has given us . Are we spending it solely on ourselves , or are we using it to illuminate the lives of others ? Just as the Menorah ’ s light is not meant for personal use but for proclaiming God ’ s miracle , our lives are meant to shine outward , testifying to His goodness . The story of Chanukah is one of rededication and multiplication . The Maccabees didn ’ t just restore the Temple ; they restored a commitment to teaching future generations the ways of God . We are called to do the same , dedicating ourselves to discipleship and raising up others to walk in God ’ s light .
